About Us

Our History

Cornerstone school exterior

Cornerstone School serves children 2 ½- 5 and is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization providing play-based preschool education since 2009. Christ Church Summit founded Cornerstone School as an extension of the church community’s mission and commitment to inclusiveness, diversity, and service to families in our wider community, welcoming students from all backgrounds. Cornerstone School does not provide religious instruction. The school’s daily operations and curriculum are under the school’s executive director’s auspices with oversight from the Cornerstone School Board.

Cornerstone provides four distinct programs that meet five days per week throughout the school year, from September to mid-June. Our Foundation, Preschool, and Pre-K children participate in a 4-hour program with extended care available. We also offer a Summer Camp Program that typically runs for nine weeks, mid-June through mid-August.

Our Mission

The Cornerstone School promotes the development of the whole child through a play-based curriculum that ignites curiosity, inspires creativity, and promotes character.

We are committed to strengthening families by offering opportunities for discussions, parenting and child development workshops, and social events where parents and children can connect with other members of the community. Cornerstone School promotes understanding and diversity in a community that is energized by a variety of faith, traditions, and cultures.

Guiding Principles

  • Childhood is valued as an exciting time for exploration and growth.
  • Children are empowered to take risks and ask questions as they experiment with an array of developmentally appropriate materials and activities.
  • Children are inspired to become lifelong learners as their natural curiosity leads them to seek answers to their questions.
  • Children experience encouragement and acceptance as they grow into a deepening understanding of themselves and the world around them.
  • Children are active members of the classroom community, developing pro-social skills and forming positive relationships with peers and adults.
  • Children celebrate the diversity of our community by sharing songs, stories, and cooperative games that foster understanding and openness.
  • Children flourish in an environment that nurtures their development in all facets of life.
