COVID Protocols

Maintaining a healthy environment is important to Cornerstone School. Our COVID policy meets the requirements of the NJ Office of Licensing and is informed by the CDC, NJ Department of Health, and the Local Health Department. It is our intent to minimize the spread of illness; your cooperation is needed for its success. If your child is not feeling well in the morning, please keep him/her home. A health screening will take place each morning before staff or students enter the building.

Symptoms

If your child or a member of our household is experiencing any of the following symptoms, your child will be excluded from the program:

One of the following:

  • Fever of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher
  • Cough
  • Shortness of Breath
  • Difficulty Breathing
  • New loss of Taste of smell

At least two of the following

  • Chills/Shivers
  • Sore Throat
  • Headache
  • Muscle aches
  • Nausea/Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Fatigue
  • Congestion/Runny Nose

While we understand that many of these symptoms can also be related to non-COVID-19 related issues we must proceed with an abundance of caution during this Public Health Emergency. These symptoms typically appear 2-7 days after being infected so please take them seriously. Your child will need to be symptom-free without any medications for 24 hours before returning to the facility. A negative COVID-19 test must accompany any other diagnosis.

No child should be sent to school if a family member is awaiting test results.

Testing

Any child with symptoms of COVID-19 must be tested before they can attend school. Cornerstone prefers a PCR test, but a rapid test administered or observed by a health professional is acceptable. For the purpose of public health response, NJDOH does NOT consider self-tests to be acceptable to rule out COVID-19 infection: Negative self-test results in symptomatic persons are NOT acceptable to return to work/school. Cornerstone will no longer accept a self-test when returning from travel.

Quarantining After Exposure

If Cornerstone receives a positive diagnosis in a classroom, the NJ Office of Licensing, NJ Department of Health, and the Local Health Department require the entire class to follow quarantine protocols. The length of quarantine is determined by the Local Health Department based on the rate of infection in the County. Cornerstone must report the positive case to the Local Health Department. Unvaccinated people cannot test out of quarantine.

Travel

Cornerstone School is following the CDC guidance for travel as recommended by the NJ State Health Department. Our unvaccinated students therefore need to quarantine after travel.

For those traveling to New Jersey, domestic travel is defined as lasting 24 hours or longer to states or US territories other than those connected to New Jersey, such as Pennsylvania, New York, and Delaware.
